WINGATE — H. Anita (McKnight) Allen, 88, formerly of the Wingate area, died at 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10, 2006 in her residence at Bickford Cottage, Crawfordsville. She was born near Newtown Aug. 6, 1918, the daughter of Theodore G. and Mabel Z. (Applegate) McKnight. She married Darrell D. Allen June 9, 1946 in Hillsboro. They farmed in the Wingate area for many years. He preceded in death March 21, 1988. She was raised in the Newtown area and was a 1936 graduate of Newtown High School. She graduated from Rudae's Beauty College of Lafayette and had worked as a licensed beautician out of her home. She had also worked as a cook at Coal Creek schools. She was a member of the New Hope Church of Wingate, enjoyed crocheting and had made several baby blankets for friends. Her priorities were always in order: God first and her family. She was a devoted mother and loving grandmother. Her home was always open to family and friends. Survivors include: two daughters, Janis (Coleman) Roach, Lexington, Ky, and Pamela Allen, Indianapolis; two sons, Gary W. (Diane) Allen, Fort Wayne and Jay D. (Lisa) Allen, Veedersburg; a sister, LaVera (Homer) Hancock, Redding, Calif., 10 grandchildren, Alan Myers, Rachel Frye, Aimee Monahan, Ryan, Gabe, Katie, Zach, Ben, Olivia, and Luke Allen; eight great-grandchildren; and five step great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, David; a sister, Zala Ingersoll; and two brothers, Charles and Harold McKnight. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) Family & Friends Funeral Home, Wingate, with the Rev. Gary Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Wolf Creek Cemetery near Wallace.
